CPU Manipulation

There's different tactics that make fighting against the CPU a lot easier. We all know how cheap it can be. The idea of this topic is to share any knowledge you have in order to manipulate the AI. In spite of the slight differences between each fighter, there are some universal techniques that give you the upper hand.

There's different reasons for fighting the computer:
1) No access to Internet
2) No Player 2; or extra controller
3) Want to practice combos, timing, etc.

General Techniques:

Jump Back - This is when you crouch until the CPU is within sweep range then
jump backwards. The CPU will pause momentarily in place and then
follow you with a forward jump. Hit 'em with your favorite combo!

                       - Easiest and most basic strategy.
                       - Beware of STRAIGHT UP JUMP KICKS by the CPU. If you wait too
long before jumping back you will get kicked by certain characters.
                       - If you find yourself nearing the corner just continue to jump until you
reach the corner, let the CPU follow, pause at the corner still crouching,
let the CPU follow… once it's about to land in the corner where you're at,
jump in the opposite direction to resume the pattern; the CPU will
                         continue to follow you.
                       - Best used AFTER the Third Opponent.

Push Back -   There is a way to force the CPU back if you walk forward. I've yet to
                      figure this out.

Early Opponents (1-3; NORMAL DIFFICULTY)

1 - The CPU will walk straight towards you throwing HP's.
                        - The CPU will not throw you. (depending on the level of difficulty)
                        - You can crouch and get away with Uppercuts fairly easy.
                        - You can throw the CPU easily.

2 - The CPU will begin to use throws.
                       - Sweeps and Jump Kicks are still easy to use but mix it up though.
                       - You can still throw the CPU but it's not as easy.
                       - Good opponent to continue practicing on.

3 - The CPU has evaluated your style already and is much more difficult.
                       - Sweeps and Jump Kicks work but if done too often, they will get snuffed every time.
                       - Throws still possible but a lot more difficult.

Things to keep in mind on the first 3 opponents
                      - Learn to mix up your attacks: Roundhouses, Jump Kicks, Sweeps, Cross Overs, Jabs…
                      - The JUMP BACK TECHNIQUE does not work on them (4 and above only)

Boss Opponents

Smoke:   - Hmmm… ?  I've seen people beat him easily (Foozer) but he's fast, and even if
you KNOW the pattern(s) it's not guaranteed to work. I don't know though.

Jade:      - Don't use projectiles… because they won't work. >=[

Kintaro:   - If speared with Scorpion, you can throw a crouching LP to juggle then spear again
before he lands. Takes forever and the timing needs to be precise.

              - Backed up all the way to the corner with Liu Kang, you can throw
alternating jabs (HP, LP, HP, LP) until he's dead.

              - Using Kitana it's all about Jump Kick's and Fan Lift's (Fan Lift works against Air Stomp)

Shao:     - Same as above, if you spear him with Scorpion, crouching LP to juggle then spear again.

             - Liu Kang technique from above works. (Lu'is Low Fire Ball will go under Shao's Low Arrow.)

             - With Kitana it's all Jump Kick's and Backward Flip's ..er Fan Lift's.

* I'm no expert at these strategies but hopefully we'll get some more comments dealing with newer techniques
and/or combos to practice. Changes to format are welcomed, let me know.

I made a video about how to easily defeat Kintaro with all the characters. Always works for me. This was all done on revision 3.1 on Medium difficulty....

9.1? No. 3.1. Honestly. Maybe it was a Mame thing. Props for saying "You're" and not "Your" btw.

against kintaro if your using sub and you freeze him in the corner you can keep tapping hp or lp against him till he runs out of health.easy Shocked agianst shao huddle in the corner and wait till he gets sweep distance then block when he does his ram then uppercut then repeat eazy peasy  Cheesy

I just want to point out that the jump back strategy only works with the male ninjas, Baraka, Cage, Shang, and Jax, and only if you're player 1.  It doesn't work with Liu, Lao, female ninjas, or Raiden.  It also works against the entire CPU if you set the game to very hard.  I find the game as a whole easier to run through on very hard.  It's also important to not that, for characters 5 and up (including bosses), the difficulty setting doesn't matter.  They always react exactly the same to the same characters and moves regardless of difficulty.  That's my experience, anyway.

If anyone has some strategy for exploiting the CPU with the monks, females, and Raiden, or as player 2, I'd love to see it.
