Here I thought we could discuss what the characteristics of an elite player are, what level you think you're at( lets say between beginner, amateur, novice, pro, and elite), and who is the next up and coming elite player.

I believe an elite player is someone that knows the game inside and out.  They have an answer for everything.  They know when to be aggressive and when to sit back.  They anticipate their opponents very well, and mix things up so that they themselves aren't predictable.  Im sure i could add to this, but i would like to hear everyone else's thoughts on this

I would say that im at the pro level, but not elite yet.  I still make alot of mistakes, and several guys out there still consistently get the best of me.

Based on their current skill level and devotion to the game, I believe Gingermagic and Kraptile are the next up and coming elite players.  Of course, this could take a year before it happens, bc it is such a long process.

Thank you in advance for any thoughts you guys share

Thank you frznsldr for your insightful reply.  On a serious note, i would have to agree with you about your current level, but i do believe you'll get better one of these days.

your jax is very good rob but im sorry you arent what I consider to be an elite player. No offense bud Im just callin it like i see it.

and yea FRZN what happened to you man??? Your game seemed off last time we played. are you not playing as much anymore?

the elite players the way I see it are

foozer
doc fusion
kensidj
Caldwell
Btbb
ls460
Mr. Gem
Ectonaut
DVD
RDZ
the list is based off of who I struggle most with beating and is in no particular order. Each one of these players have at least 2 or 3 characters that are at an elite level and probably get them wins 75-80% of the time.

Which is what I believe makes a player "elite" mastery of the cast to the point that even in a random select game they have the upper hand in probably a third or more of they're matches. But can also win the other 2/3's by just understanding the game and being a superior player.

I call doc holiday -> doc fusion because he was fusion117 when I met him, but then he became doc. so I just combined the 2. and you have "doc fusion"

@ frznsldr, I don't really think you play like a beginner.  I was just giving you a hard time for attempting to turn my thread into a joke.

This is a VERy good topic, Mike.

I always thought that there were plateaus in playing this game.

Noob- Someone who doesn't know what they are doing.

Eh- Knows a few character's moves. It's likely haven't discover their best attributes.

Okay- Knows most characters moves and what they're good at, but doesn't know how to apply tactics.

Decent- Most common learning stage: tactics, what and what not to do. Mostly likely learning from serious beatings, OR serious conversations. *

Good- The stage where a player usually starts randoming. They'll give VERY good games. At this stage, people decide what kind of player they want to be. *

Really Good- Someone who starts to raise some eyebrows. They may start seeking out solids and elites at this point, for challenges. I suggest they join a tourney. At their very best, they can streak anyone 5 at one time or another.

Solid- Someone who has gained very serious respect. They may even be feared by people who aren't as good, and their battles with other solids will be exciting and a learning template. Solid players are committed to the game in one way or another and are likely looked up to by someone.

Elite- An ultimate warrior that plays with a great deal of confidence. They display all the right decisions and emotions 9/10 times, and are VERY capable of winning any character match-up. At this point a player is likely able to teach others. An elite player makes it their business to win the majority against 95% of all players (if not more). It's likely they perform tactics that take an average player least 6 months to master.  **

*Between being decent and good, a player decides if they want to pursue being good at randoming or playing solely with their strongest characters. EX: Bucktown, tenward, jester305. Only a handful of players pursue both: Foozer, Frznsldr, dvdcsn

**The most difficult gap to cross is between solid and elite. Although a solid player is capable of breaking even with an elite player, it won't be consistently so. An elite can develop answers for every tactic and reshape their own. Some players can be stuck in between these two stages: being better than most solid players, yet consistently losing to elite players. Instincts have a lot to do with that.

Elite - somebody able to win against top competition without even using a single special move, just basic tactics.

^Sometimes that's in a player's best interest anyway. No matter how good they are.
