Kaillera MK2 Tutorial by John2kx
_________________________

Intro
_____

This tutorial is intended to help anyone get quickly set up with kaillera and MK2.  Kaillera is the MAME add-on that lets you play an arcade game with others P2P.  It's been around forever.  I remember coming back to it every now and then over the years.
 Now we have the PS3, and while it has some obvious advantages, it still lacks some of the things kaillera has.

    * It's generally less laggy
    * You have more choice in joystick controls
    * You can chat faster/easier in-game
    * You have access to the full emulated ROM
    * You can easily record matches without a camera.
    * You can make it say "excellent!" whenever you want by inserting a credit. Smiley

First, download this right now:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/416444/mameppk_bin_gcc-0.119-20070914.zip

Part 1: MAME
____________

On the left, click the "available" folder (2nd from top).
If nothing is showing up in that folder, go to View->Refresh.
It should find your MK2 rom.

Then go to options->default game options.

Click "Display" on the left side.
I checked "run in a window" and unchecked "start out maximized",
but these options are up to you.

Then go to controllers and check "enable joystick input".

Hit "apply" and "OK".

Part 2: Setting up MK2 controls
_______________________________

double click MK2 in the list of your games.
It will start up.. Type OK, then hit enter.

Press TAB to bring up the in-game MAME menu.

Go to Input (this game).

I'm using an SNES controller connected to a USB adapter.

Highlight "1 Player Start", hit ENTER, and then push the button you want it to be.  I chose the sTART button on my SNES controller.

Next, highlight "Coin 1".  Hit Enter. I chose Select on my controller for this one.

Then go down to "P1 Up", hit ENTER.  By now you're picking it up I hope. Smiley  Press up on your joystick.  Do the same for down, left, and right.

Now comes the tricky part, but I've already done the hard work for you! Why? Cuz you guys are the best! Smiley You're welcome!

Here are the MAME buttons and the MK2 translation:

P1 Button 1 = HP
P1 Button 2 = HK
P1 Button 3 = BL
P1 Button 4 = LP
P1 Button 5 = LK
P1 Button 6 = no need to map this.. it's block, but it releases the block right away even if you're holding it down.. Maybe someone's found a purpose for this?

Now you can go to the bottom and "return to prior menu".

There are other options here you can play with later, but for now, hit TAB, and then close the window that MK2 is running in.

Part 3: Kaillera
__________________

now back in the MAME program window, right click on MK2 in your "available" folder, and click on "kaillera net play".

Now at the bottom of this window, enter a username and choose LAN (60 keyframes/s) as your connection type. (trust me)

If anyone happens to live in the middle of the US with an awesome FIOS connection, maybe you can start up a kaillera server, but until then, we'll just use "Sonic Cage Dome" in NYC, because it's less crowded than the Galaxy 64 server, plus it has "Cage" in its name, like Johnny Cage. Smiley  But of course, you guys can decide on any server you want.

Now you'll see a list of users, a chat area, and a list of games currently being played.
To start an MK2 session, click the "create new game" button and choose your MK2 rom. Simple!

As soon as someone joins your "room", you can talk to them or start the game.  Once in the game, you can chat by pressing "T" on your keyboard, then typing in whatever, and then ENTER.

You probably have an out of date Kaillera client. Here is the latest one, just replace your old kailleraclient.dll with this one:

* kailleraclient.dll (120 KB - downloaded 267 times.)

Only way to record is on p2p.

You can record server games by having this kaillera.dll, just replace your old one with it:

Literally, I've tried about 5 different tutorials to get mame. It's just not happening for me. Like it wasn't meant to be. It's really irritating when everyone has steps to follow, and when I follow them, something is missing, or something isn't understanding something else. I give up on this, seriously.

Ha, well, I have Windows 7 which is like a graveyard for mame. But everytime I try to insert a rom into mame, it just simply doesn't show up.

Fooz, I think it depends on your OS cause I've seen a few cats in WW and Galaxy playing SFIII Third Strike on 32k. It's like me, I can't get samsho4 to play on 32k .64 but I cant get it to play on 119. Good Job and grats David for finally getting Mame set up.
